Overview
Aims
Skills for Care's Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) is recognised as the leading source of high quality data and workforce intelligence for adult social care in the UK. The ASC-WDS collects information online about providers offering a social care service and their employees. Social care providers register and then maintain information on the ASC-WDS website. Repots and visualisations cover topics such as recruitment and retention, sickness, pay rates, qualifications and demographics.

Sample details
Over 20,000 providers have signed up to the Skills of Care Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set and regularly contribute their workforce data. Approximately half of the workforce are recorded in the ASC-WDS. This coverage varies by care service, job role and geographical area. The Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set is the adult workforce data return for local authorities. In 2021, all 151 local authorities in England met the criteria of a full return for people working in their adult social services departments. This means Skills for Care receive data from every local authority with an adult social services department in England. Skills for Care estimates that there were 39,000 care establishments providing or organising adult social care in England in 2021/22, around 26,300 of these services were CQC regulated. In 2022, the ASC-WDS (NMDS-SC) had just under half coverage of all CQC regulated social care establishments.
